Lip Tattooing
Cosmetic lip tattoo is done daily by thousands of women in different countries. The procedure helps girls become more attractive and, most importantly, feel self-confident.
What are the benefits of lip tattooing
A permanent lip tattoo is the introduction of pigment into the superficial layer of the skin to correct the colour, form a beautiful contour, smooth out asymmetry, and make the face more expressive. Tattooing has many advantages, including:
- Saving time on makeup. Permanente allows waking up in the morning already beautiful. With tattooing, does not need to draw out the contour of the lips pencil, then apply lipstick and constantly worry that it can smudge or leave traces on your clothes.
- Emphasising natural beauty. Permanent makeup does not make drastic changes in appearance. The procedure allows one and highlights the highlighted attractiveness of the lips.
- Saving money. You do not have to spend on different lipsticks, or lip glosses, most of which are just lying on the shelf in the bathroom. It is enough to have a few variants of cosmetics to create a bright evening image. For everyday makeup, tattooing will suffice.
- Correction of asymmetry. With the help of the correct distribution of pigment, you can hide flaws in the shape of the lips and small scars.
How long the effect lasts
Semi-Permanent makeup cannot be done once and for life. On average, tattooing lasts 1.5-2 years. Then you can update the colour make a refresh. However, how long permanent makeup will remain on the lips depends on several factors:
- The age of the woman;
- skin type;
- materials used;
- the professionalism of the master.
In women over 50 years old, tattooing lasts longer than in girls. This is because, with age, the skin is renewed more slowly, and the rate of lymphatic drainage decreases.

Minuses of lip permanence
The negative aspects of lip colour tattoos are insignificant. They are not associated with the procedure itself but with the peculiarities of the client’s body. The relative minuses can be attributed to the following:
- Discomfort with a low pain threshold. Women do not experience pain when introducing pigment. But susceptible clients may have unpleasant sensations that can increase during menstruation or on the eve. But this disadvantage is not difficult to correct with the help of light anaesthesia.
- The presence of medical contraindications. For example, the procedure can not be carried out in autoimmune diseases, diabetes mellitus.
How to choose a safe tattoo artist
Professional tattoo artists of permanent makeup should be selected as carefully as a doctor. It is better to avoid visiting specialists who work at home. They often offer a low price but do not comply with sanitary norms and use cheap equipment. What you should pay attention to when choosing a specialist:
- Check the tattoo master’s training credentials. Continuous professional development is a good sign.
- Always attend a preliminary consultation. A specialist will want to understand your needs and any contraindications before starting.
- Look for before-and-after photos, especially showing healed work.
- Ensure they discuss and plan the lipstick colour and shape based on your natural features.
- Always inquire about the equipment and pigments used. They should be of high quality and certified.
When you can't have lip tattooing
Lip tattoo procedure, like any other procedure, has temporary and absolute contraindications.
1. pregnancy and breastfeeding. At this time, you should be incredibly attentive to your health. Often a pregnant or lactating woman’s hormonal background changes, and sensitivity increases. Although permanent makeup does not harm the baby, we recommend postponing the procedure until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to avoid discomfort.
2. Herpes in the acute stage. When there are ulcers on the lips, it is better to postpone the procedure because you can not apply permanente evenly when there are wounds or cracks.
3 The presence of absolute medical contraindications. We have already mentioned them. But the complete list is better to clarify with the master.
4. Skin diseases. Dermatitis, eczema, blisters – contraindications to the procedure. Permanente is not applied to damaged skin.
5. Colds. If you have a fever, weakness and other ailments, postpone the procedure until complete recovery.
How is lip tattooing
The cosmetic tattooing procedure is minimally traumatic, painless, and does not require complex preparation. It is available at any time of the year, but it is worth considering a few nuances and rules:
- If prone to frequent herpes, you do not need to drink antiviral drugs or apply ointments in advance. Acyclovir or its analogue is better to take the day before or on the day of the procedure.
- If the skin of the lips is dry, you must use moisturising agents based on petroleum jelly. They are safe and do not irritate.
- If you want to increase the lips, it is worth discussing the timing with the master. Sometimes it is worth waiting a few weeks between procedures.
The preparation includes taking an anamnesis and examining the skin and natural facial structure. It also considers the palette of blonde, brunette, and redhead colour types. This is done to make the result genuine; the lips were not “drawn” and realistic. No more special preparations are not necessary. The master does the rest. The procedure takes place in several stages:
- Drawing a sketch. Discussed with the client what exactly the effect wants to get. If you have previously heard, for example, only about the fondant process, then we will advise you to consider watercolour, which many also call powder processed.
- Approval of the sketch. Adjustments are made if necessary. At this preparatory stage, you can look at how the lips will look after permanent makeup.
- Introduction of pigment. At this stage, direct colouring takes place. It is carried out with a sterile set of needles. The palette is selected by the natural colour of the face, hair, and skin, taking into account the shade of the lips and the colour type.
Mild swelling may diminish within a few hours following the permanent makeup procedure. Clients also note a slight dryness of the lip skin. For its elimination, we recommend using products based on petroleum jelly.
How the procedure feels
What techniques are used in lip tattooing
There are two techniques – lipstick and watercolour. It is just a marketing move if you meet other names – 3D, natural. The difference between the methods lies in the density of colour pigments laying. Fondant colouring gives a brighter and more saturated shade, which is suitable when you need to correct the shape of the lips. Adult women more often choose it.
We almost always recommend the watercolour technique for girls with an excellent natural mouth shape. It helps to achieve a natural effect of growing with a brush, suitable for women of different colour types.
What to expect during the recovery period
- On the first day – barely noticeable swelling. It does not interfere with communication, drinking, or eating. Possible slight dryness, corrected by a cream based on petroleum jelly. The ointment should be applied as discomfort arises.
- The second-third day – the appearance of crusts. They are very light – an excess of pigment from the skin. They should not be scratched or torn off.
- By the third or fifth day, the crusts come off. The colour becomes the same as in the sketch.
After a month, you need to come for correction. It will allow the master to add pigment so the permanent will last longer. You can also slightly change the look of the lips. Listen to the advice of the specialist.
If you plan to pump up with fillers, you can do tattooing, wait for it to heal, and inject hyaluronic. When combining procedures, care will not become more complex; the lips will recover quickly.
